Come join friends and family at Wintergreen Adaptive Sports for its annual Mardi Gras event, held always on the first Saturday in March near the end of our snow sports season.

In 2016, our "Gras" will fall on Saturday, March 5th, at which time we'll celebrate another wonderful season on the snow–Wintergreen Adaptive Sports' 20th year as an independent non-profit. We'll recognize our illustrious students and volunteers.

Mardi Gras at WAS is held every year in honor of the program’s first student, Vince Fiore. Vince was an avid skier whose enthusiasm for sport, speed, and athletic endeavor never wavered. We miss him greatly, but it is his spirit of joyful determination that we remember and celebrate at each year's Mardi Gras.

Don't miss any of the fun

11am–The day begins as we launch our version of a second line parade on skis (and snowboards) at 11am, after assembling at the top of the Wintergreen Potato Patch trail. Traditional Mardi Gras costumes will be featured alongside those designed to reflect the year's theme.

Noon–Following the parade is the traditional Mardi Gras gumbo lunch served at the Hut. Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, Seafood Gumbo, and at least one vegetarian option will be served with French Bread and plenty of Cajun and Zydeco music. Student awards will be announced at lunch.

3pm–WAS will hold its ever popular synchronized ski contest. As before, expect polished acting, ironic humor, and surpassing athleticism all rolled into one.

6pm–Finally, at the end of the day, staff and volunteers will gather for a buffet supper, Cajun music by Bayou Faux Pas, and the announcement of volunteer awards at the Blue Toad Cidery Events Hall (462 Winery Lane, off of Beech Grove Rd.). Winners of the WAS Mardi Gras Raffle will also be drawn at the Cidery Dinner, during the band intermission. Register for dinner HERE.

*All events and meals are free to volunteers and staff.
