Wintergreen Adaptive Sports provides outdoor sports and recreational opportunities for persons with disabilities. We serve people of all ages and with all types of disabilities. 

WAS offers adaptive instruction in alpine skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, and canoeing. Each summer at its Wounded Warriors Golf tournament, WAS holds an adaptive golf clinic. 

Safety, fun, and learning are the priorities in every activity.

Half-day sessions cost $60, full-days are $100, and two-days are $100. Wounded Warriors and scholarships are less.

The name two tracking refers to the two tracks left in the snow behind the skier. Two trackers use two skis and two boots and may use a ski bra attached to the ski tips. (Ski bras assist with lateral control and help maintain a consistent ski position.)

Individuals with autism, attention disorders, developmental disabilities, vision or hearing impairment, or mild difficulties walking are good candidates for two tracking.

These skiers have one typical leg and two typical arms. They are generally individuals who have a leg amputation. Three trackers use one full-size ski and two hand-held outriggers giving them three points of contact on the snow. 

The outriggers have short ski tips at the end creating three tracks in the snow behind the skier.  The outriggers are used for balance and turn initiation.

As with skiing, we give lessons to students with the same wide range of disabilities. Sit down equipment can be modified to accommodate a snowboard and there are a wide variety of adaptive teaching aids available. A number of our instructors are AASI (American Association of Snowboard Instructors) certified.

Four track skiers use two full-size skis and two hand-held outriggers giving them four points of contact on the snow. The outriggers have short ski tips at the end creating four tracks in the snow behind the skier.  As it is with the single outrigger for three-track skiers, the four-track outriggers are used for balance and turn initiation.
Four tracking is for individuals with disabilities of the lower extremities. This may include individuals with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis or those who have lower extremity amputations. Almost anyone who walks with canes or crutches can ski four-track.
